  • Classroom Cubbies

    Funded Sep 6, 2023

Thank you very much for your donation that made it possible for my class to get two sets of cubbies. This additional furniture has made a huge impact on our classroom atmosphere. We no longer have students crashing into one another while carrying a blue tote stuffed to the top with all their winter gear. Students no longer have to wait ever so patiently for their turn to pick up their tote. Students no longer have to stack their heavy totes on top of a pile or pull theirs out from the bottom of a pile. Now, students can easily access their belongings and carry only what they need to their table area whenever needed without long delays or crashing into others. This is a total feng shui game changer! Thank you from the bottom of my heart and a stack of 20 blue totes!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Walls

  • S.T.E.M. Explorers

    Funded Aug 16, 2023

I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful donation to my classroom. The impact of having STEM kits in our classroom has been overwhelming and amazing. The students were so excited when they saw all the new STEM activities and couldn't wait to start using them!

My students have enjoyed the STEM Fairy Tale Problem Solving kits as much as I have. They love rereading fairy tales with a new lens in mind, that of a problem solver. The students have enjoyed exploring the different characters, settings, and problem/solution dynamics. The students have been using the materials to practice their engineering skills as well as talking about story elements and sharing their failures and successes.

The students were so shocked and amazed that they were being given such an awesome opportunity to plan, build, test, and try again. What growth mindset! From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your generosity!"”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Walls

  • Bridging the Physical and Digital Gap Through Problem Solving.

    Funded Jan 29, 2017

Thank you so much for supporting the educational growth of my students. With the help of an pad and the OSMO kit my students are able to work both independently and cooperatively to problem solve. They are able to manipulate physical pieces on the table's surface to complete a challenge on the pad screen. The OSMO kit records and displays their movements/manipulations in real-time while they work through a problem set.

Through this new technology, my students are having a blast while they are reviewing skills and learning new skills. Most of my students have expressed a preference to working with a partner or team to tackle many of the harder more complex spatial puzzles and mazes. This in turn has created a greater bond between classmates and appreciation for specialized thinking and improved their social intelligence.

Our class has enjoyed the OSMO kit so very much that the students wrote persuasive letters to me and talked me into purchasing another OSMO kit and a new add on program that works with fractions and money. Some days it is difficult to reach 100% engagement within in classroom; not with the OSMO station! My students look forward to every chance they have to explore and challenge themselves. Several even ask to stay in from recess to work!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Walls

Having an iPad and Osmo kit will allow for different structures of learning in my classroom. Instead of working with worksheets, students will be working on team-building skills, while simultaneously improving their math and language skills. This hands on technology connection will foster social intelligence and creative thinking, while bridging the real and digital realms. Students will work in small teams to spell hidden words, improve engineering skills by guiding a virtual ball through a maze with real-life objects, use tangrams to solve spatial puzzles, explore math skills through trial and error, and much more. Osmo programs have a variety of practice skills in each subject area, which will challenge both my highest performing and most struggling students. This project will make a difference for my students by giving them a tool that uses physical connections with technology in order to solve challenges. This grant will help support positive team interactions and balance small group problem solving skills. This will empower my students to improve their lives and the lives of people around them.
