  • Look Out! We Are Doing Science!

    Funded Nov 2, 2016

Your generous support has enabled the teachers at Morrison to feel more comfortable teaching science! This has led to a dramatic increase in hands on science instruction.

Most early childhood teachers focus on literacy and math. Using the Picture Perfect Science books and lessons, picture books (something the teachers are comfortable with) are leading students and teachers into science investigation and deeper understanding (something they never thought they could do.)

At the staff Christmas Party, one of our third grade teachers cornered me saying, "The questions are fantastic!! "What is in air?", "Why are we still using oil?", "How long to you have to go to college to be a structural engineer?", "Wait, the foil should reflect heat, why was my house hotter than theirs?" I started out trying to answer the questions, now I am saying, "Google that and see what you find. I'll check back with you in a minute." " She has never been excited about science before and now she is sending out emails over Winter Break asking for materials for her class' next project.

My sixth graders are 'furious' about oil spilling into the sea, endangering life in the sea and along the shoreline. During a recent reading of Oil Spill, one of my students shouted out the question, "Hey, otters are mammals, right?" Before I could answer or even ask him to raise his hand over half of the class was involved in a discussion of the traits of mammals and how the polar bears and seals we had studied last week while researching global warming are mammals.

I have taught for years waiting for this to happen and you have made it possible! Thank you with all my heart!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Asbill

  • Arkansas Economics for Mustangs

    Funded Jan 25, 2013

Money makes the world go round? I prefer to think of love and caring makes the world go round. You have definitely shown you caring for our wonderful students. You have provided materials and activities that they are already using to be competent and successful with money.

Our students work hard everyday but without your help they would not have the tools to be successful. I can not thank you enough for being the embodiment of caring by helping us.

These materials will be used this year and in future years to increase the economic proficiency of the students. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Asbill

  • Arkansas Economics

    Funded Jan 30, 2013

Can you tell how excited these kids are to learn about money?

Heads together, intent on what they are doing. They were so excited I had to make them take turns!

The games and activities you provided will make a difference this year and years to come. Games are so much better than worksheets. The learning is authentic and will make a huge difference. You have helped these students now and they will be using these skills for the rest of their lives.

You have truly made a difference!

They can't wait to play and learn again soon, and it's all because of YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Asbill

  • Picture Dictionaries

    Funded Nov 30, 2012

Thank you, thank you, thank you! You can see from the photos how interested the kids are in learning. You have given them the tools they need to learn English words for words they already know in Spanish. You have given them the tools they need to be successful.

I really can't thank you enough for helping these very deserving children. They work hard for us, trying their best at anything we ask, and you have given them the tool to learn on their own. With these picture dictionaries, they will make connections to the Spanish words they know, making connections and linking information.

With your help, there is no stopping these young people. They will be tomorrow's leaders!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Asbill

  • Hooo Did I Eat?

    Funded Sep 5, 2012

I wish you could have heard the expressions today. "Cool." "Weird." "What do you think this is?" "Is this a bone?" "What is this?" I did not tell the students what the owl pellets were. They explored and probed. They matched bones to the guide. It was magic!

As a teacher, I live for those, 'Ah, Ha' moments where kids are engaged and learning on their own. Those moments that they are wanting to learn, wanting to investigate. You have provided that magic engaging moment that will keep them interested as we study food webs and delve into ecology.

They don't know it now, but you have changed them into people that want to find out. People that want to know and are willing to research and find out.

You are helping build magic moments and change lives.

    Thank you,”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Asbill

  • Learn Math the Fun Way, Games

    Funded Oct 8, 2012

You should have heard the questions on Friday. Are we going to play math games today?

Over and over I heard this question before school, in the hallway, even on recess. I received the games on Wednesday and altered my plans for Thursday to introduce 3 games. To say the kids loved them is an understatement! They were over joyed! And of course, we did play math games on Friday also.

Your heart would have swelled with mine, had you heard E say to me in the middle of a game on Friday, "Mrs. A. now I understand how multiplication works." You have made the difference for E and her entire class. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Asbill

  • Show Me The Math Vocabulary!

    Funded Oct 8, 2012

Wow, what a difference it makes to see math vocabulary in diagram form. In the photos you will see students discussing the vocabulary word, explaining what the definition is, and evaluating the poster for improvements. So much talk and thinking about math vocabulary.

These materials are helping the students own the vocabulary. With a greater understanding of math vocabulary will come a greater understanding of math, both now and in the future. Your help is making the difference between average math students and advanced math students!

    Thank you so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Asbill

  • Rocking and Rolling, Soil and Minerals

    Funded Oct 8, 2012

Thank you, thank you, thank you! As you can see from the photos, having minerals samples that are large enough to hold and really look at make all the difference. The students understood minerals like never before! The samples are large enough to see that they are not just rocks I picked up somewhere, but samples of minerals that make up other rocks. After examining the mineral set, students were even able to pick out different minerals in some of my rock samples.

You have made the difference with these students.

Thank you again for taking the time to help.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Asbill

  • Bilingual Dictionaries

    Funded Mar 24, 2012

What a difference student friendly dictionaries make! These dictionaries are so easy to use and

have many more words than our old dictionaries, they are truly going to make a difference in the

students' learning and our benchmark scores.

I watched for the last two years as students that were allowed to use word to word dictionaries,

never use them because the dictionaries were hard to understand and not in a logical sequence.

The students have already started to use these new dictionaries and are excited to learn new words

every day! Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Asbill

  • Visual Art Materials for the Classroom

    Funded Feb 7, 2012

Wow, What a difference creating and doing make in the learning process. It reminds me of,

"Hear and I forget, Do and I remember." We have been "doing" in class. The students

are excited and are learning. They come to school everyday asking, "What are we doing today, Mrs. Asbilll."

Thank you so much for understanding my vision and providing the

materials to ignite that spark of learning. Without your help I would not have been able to provide them with the abundance of rich authentic experiences that I have.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Asbill
