  • We Need A Kidney (Table), Stat!

    Funded Jul 26, 2018

Our new reading table has been a fantastic addition to our classroom. Students were so excited and surprised when our new blue kidney table was set-up with new stools when they returned to school after the weekend.

At our old table, we were often squished together, bumping elbows, not enough room for all of our materials and sometimes my back was to the students. Now we are able to have all of our materials in one place, sit beside each other without becoming too distracted and are always able to see the teacher.

We all love our new table and stools. We love meeting together at our new table for guided reading groups, small group work with math, eating snack with the teacher, and as a quiet spot to work independently. We can't thank you enough for your support in helping our classroom and helping us become better readers, writers and mathematicians!”

  • Making Books, The "Write" Way!

    Funded Aug 22, 2018

After a morning of getting my classroom ready for the new school year, I checked my email this afternoon to find out that my project, "Making Books the 'Write' Way!" had been fully funded!

I am so grateful that I will be able to start off a new school year with fun and fancy writing supplies to help get our mini authors excited about writing and making books! Thank you for your generosity and making this project come to life!”

  • Fun With Phonics!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you for your generous donation to help get this project funded.

First graders love to make words and love to read. With your help, our first graders were able to find pictures on our magnetic phonics boards, sound out the word and find the proper letters to match. Students also loved using the phonics stamps to fill in the missing digraphs, blends or vowels in the words that went with the image on the stamp. These phonics materials are great in helping reinforce certain skills that were taught at a previous time. Our students had a blast sounding out words, stamping, and creating. Thank you for helping make learning fun!”

  • Playing Softball Without Fear

    Funded Apr 3, 2018

Thank you all so much for your donations for the RIP-IT face masks. During the season, the girls on the softball team showed more confidence on the field in all aspects, but especially during games in practices on defense. With the arrival of the face masks, the girls were stunned that we had the ability to make sure that anyone that played in the infield that wanted to wear a mask was able to. We are so grateful that we are able to have these face masks that will continue to be part of our softball program for many years to come, all thanks to you. Thank you again for your generosity and helping keep our players safe and build their confidence!”

  • Mentor Texts for Mentor Sentences: Part 3

    Funded Jan 25, 2018

In first grade, we LOVE getting new books! Anytime a box gets delivered to our room, that is my students first guess!

We are so grateful for the books we have been able to receive with all of your help! Your donations have allowed me to use picture books to teach grammar and writing to my students in a different way. I was introduced to Mentor Sentences by Jivey by a colleague of mine. I love this way of teaching different parts of speech and grammar to students. We have used Bear Stays Up for Christmas, The Mitten and That's what Leprechauns Do to learn about prepositions and adjectives.

Many of the books that are used in Mentor Sentences are books that I didn't have in my classroom library or readily available to me as a new teacher. Now we are able to read and reread these books and explore different parts of speech and then use the framework of the sentence to create our own versions of the book.

Thank you again! My students love our new books!”

  • Just Right Books - Part 1

    Funded Dec 19, 2017

Thank you so much for all of your support to help my students get just right books!. My students were very excited to receive a box and to open the box to find brand new books for our leveled library!

When I explained to students that these books were to help us practice our reading skills during our guided reading time, they were pleased to have a variety of fiction and non-fiction books for everyone to enjoy. Even though some of the students in my class are reading above the level A books we received, my students loved reading the books to each other. My students who are above an A also got to read to students who were still struggling to master this level. It was great to watch the interaction of my students with each other and to hear the excitement in their voices when reading the new books.

Thank you for helping us add great additions to our leveled library!”

  • Celebrating Student Successes

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

What great news to wake up to this morning that my project was fully funded! As the end of the month is approaching, I am grateful to be getting these supplies to help celebrate all the hard work that my students have been doing. The great new supplies that will be arriving are going to help motivate students to keep working hard until through the end of the school year. This truly was the #BestSchoolDay. Thank you for supporting me and my students!”

  • Look Out! First Grade Engineers Coming Through!

    Funded Dec 29, 2017

It has been an exciting time in first grade since the arrival of our Engineer A Coaster kit, Create A Path kit and our magnetic whiteboard stand!

After opening the boxes and putting our materials together, the students asked what an engineer was and why we have these tools in our classroom. I explained that an engineer is a person who designs and builds things to solve specific problems, I showed the students the task cards that came with our Engineer A Coaster kit. We figured out our problem was how are we going to set up our tracks to get the disk into the goal. We saw that task card showed us where and how the track was supposed to be placed to get the disk down the track into the goal box.

Students put the tracks on the whiteboard, then tried to put the disk in, and it didn't go anywhere. We found out that the angle of the magnetic tracks and there were certain openings on the track that needed to be placed in certain spots in order for us to be successful. If the track was flat, the disk wouldn't move. If the track was at to high of an angle, the disk would move too fast. Finding the perfect angle was a ton of fun. Listening to my students communicate with each other and work together to solve these problems filled me with so much joy. There wasn't any arguing, they talked out their problems and were able to be successful.

By using our Engineer A Coaster and Create A Path activity kits, we are working on problem solving, creative thinking and teamwork all at the same time!

I can't thank you enough for supporting our classroom!”

    Funded Nov 29, 2017

Thank you so much for all of your generous donations! Your donations are allowing me to use picture books to teach grammar and writing to my students. I was introduced to Mentor Sentences by Jivey by a colleague of mine, and now almost all grades K-4 are using them! Many of the books that are used in Mentor Sentences are books that I didn't have in my classroom library or readily available to me as a new teacher. Now we are able to read and reread these books and explore different parts of speech and then use the framework sentences to create our own versions of the book.

  • Mentor Texts for Mentor Sentences: Part 2

    Funded Dec 21, 2017

"Miss Lincoln, is that ANOTHER box of books for us!?" My students LOVE getting new books and thanks to you and your donations, they are able to read and be exposed to a variety of different books. Your donations have allowed me to use picture books to teach grammar and writing to my students in a different way. I was introduced to Mentor Sentences by Jivey by a colleague of mine. I love this way of teaching different parts of speech and grammar to students.

Each week we focus on one mentor text and a sentence from that text to explore everything that makes up a great sentence such as capital letters, punctuation, nouns, verbs, contractions, etc. We study a specific part of speech or grammar element from the sentence and then at the end of the week have an assessment on what we have learned. We also use mentor sentences as guides to help us with our own writing!

This is my first year as a classroom teacher, where I am teaching in first grade. I am lucky to be part of a learning community where we are able to team teach the whole first grade. Our first graders keep us laughing and learning everyday. A typical day would include silliness, curiosity, GoNoodle, brilliant ideas, and hard work. We are very appreciative of each and every donation made to our classroom to help us become the very best that we can be!
