Young Chemists Need Working Computers for Their Data

Funded Oct 5, 2016

My students and I are deeply grateful for the donation you've made to our classroom. The new solid state drives which you've donated have been installed by my students and myself, and our now repaired laptops are an integral part of our classroom. With your donation my chemists can now readily do research in class, work together on lab projects, and run chemistry simulations. In repairing the laptops by installing the solid state drives, installing and configuring free open source software, and connecting them to the school's network, my students have gained invaluable experience in how computers work and how to fix them. My students are proud of their new skills.

And this is just the beginning. Now that we have a functioning laptops, our next step is to couple the laptops with scientific probeware. We will be able to do analytical chemistry with computer-aided sensors in both the classroom and outside in the wilds of our city. My chemists will get more of a taste for what scientists do.

By countering the budget restrictions in providing computing power, your donation has shown my chemists that all kinds of people are happy to provide them with their tools for learning. Because of you my students know that it is good to ask for help. Many of these students have the goal of going onto college and into one of the scientific professions. Your donation has given them four powerful tools in making it there: asking for help, learning how to make a computer work, using a computer for laboratory work, and showing gratitude.

Wishing my students will grow to be like you!”

With gratitude,

Teacher Dahl
