Molding and Creating
Funded Apr 13, 2018Your kind donation has given our classroom another great resource that will continue to inspire our imaginations and strengthen our creative spirits. We are able to use the new play dough sets through out the day. In our centers students are able to construct items from their imaginations. They create the structures and talk about what they made and how they made it. In literacy centers the students are using the play dough and letter stampers to create sight words and practice spelling their name. In small groups the students are using the math mats and play dough to practice quantifying and counting sets of numbers.
When I opened the package the students were excited. They could not believe that your donation was just for them! We looked at each item together and shared ideas on how we were going to use them. The collaboration really helped the students take ownership of their learning. They did not realize that practicing skills and creating could be a fun way to learn.
This year my new group of students will also get to continue exploring and learning using your generous donations.”

Ipads Give us Reading Freedom!
Funded Nov 28, 2017Your donation has boosted the interest in our students ability to seek out books on their own. The iPads are used to read online children's books with many different topics and interests levels. The program provides read to me books that show bright and engaging pictures in both fiction and nonfiction titles.
Students come in the classroom in the morning and look forward to listening to the stories independently. They choose to use the tablets during indoor recess and free choice. I love how the iPads give them the power to choose what they want to read. Most of the time in the classroom the teacher is choosing the books for our read aloud and story times. The iPads that you provided give my students a chance to explore all topics and even introduce them to new topics.
Thank you for your support and please know that this resource will touch and inspire kids for years to come!”

This classroom project was brought to life by PNC Grow Up Great® and 4 other donors.High Level Make Believe Play Stations
Funded Jul 16, 2017Your donation has made singing about the letter sounds and identifying the letters very fun for my students. We meet a new letter friend each week and I am able to spark their interest with the creative use of puppetry and music. During free choice and literacy groups I will notice students picking up the puppets and pretending to be me. They use the puppets to imitate the sounds that the letters make and they are interacting with each other having pretend conversations with multiple puppets.
This resource has not only expanded our literacy knowledge, but it has also given social strength to students that are too shy or usually quiet. They are using the puppets to help them interact with other students. They are recognizing the letters that are located on the puppets throughout our classroom.
The restaurant writing box has helped children as they make play orders or look for familiar words in the kitchen. The students are able to recreate how writing is used in many places.
We appreciate everything that you have done to support our learning and we are thankful!”

Help us Build our Fluent Reading Station!
Funded Jan 19, 2017We have embraced our new listening station so well that many kids cannot wait to hear some of their favorite books each day. The students are able to follow along with the reader as fluent reading is modeled. My students have even started to use their "talking" voice when reading to make the stories come alive!
Research shows that when students read fluently with expression that they comprehend much better. Our data and new love for reading shows that your donation is helping us reach that goal. My students are asking to read their leveled books to the whole class at the end of the day. They are excited to model reading at home with their younger siblings.
My listening station has also created a way for my below level students to access more texts independently. They are enjoying stories with complex text while also hearing how great readers read.
We thank each of you for your kindness and support.”
