Let's Finish Reading a Good Book!
Funded May 21, 2020I am extremely grateful for your generous donation by funding my project. 2020 put us into a tailspin and teachers had to navigate a new way of teaching children. One major impact was virtual teaching.
Before we went virtual, our best part of the day was our read aloud. Students would just listen to me read out loud for enjoyment, hear new vocabulary, and have someone read to them with expression and fluency.
When we left in March 2020, we had no idea how long the shutdown would last. The book that was funded by Donor's Choose was our book I was reading aloud in the classroom before the shutdown. Every student received a copy of the book and during our virtual read aloud time my students were able to follow along while I read to them.
My class of 2020 was truly grateful for your generousity.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Patrick

Funded Nov 2, 2017Our new e-readers have really been quite a hit in my classroom! In fact, I have a wait list for students who want to read from them. They love to read from them! I have downloaded about 15 books so far onto them. I have a wide-range of books I choose to download. These are books for my most struggling reader to my most advanced reader. Students give me suggestions for books they are interested in reading.
Because of space issues in the classroom, I am able to expand my classroom library with these e-readers! The benefits of the e-readers is that the books on them will never get lost, worn out, or damaged like paper copies would. Another benefit of using the e-reader is that there is a built-in dictionary. The majority of my students are ELLs so this means my students need to be exposed to vocabulary, figurative language, authors' craft and purpose! The more my students read, the more all of these reading aspects increase leading to a smaller academic gap.
According to my students, independent reading time is their favorite part of the day even for my students who don't have a love for reading! My 26 students and I thank you for all your generous donations!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Patrick
