Adding representation that the students can relate to into math that inspires or motivate has been a difficult task but their are two movies that I use to inspire the students. Right after our 1st unit when jump into the 1st really difficult unit for students I show them Stand and Deliver. This allows my students of Latin heritage to see themselves concurring and allows for conversations about equity. They begin the next unit with more confidence, motivation, and purpose. During 2nd semester when we are to being our factoring unit we watch Hidden Figures and again they begin renewed. I currently don't own copies as I either rent it from amazon or hope it is available to stream. This will help me so that I don't have to keep hoping it will be available and I can know I will have it as a part of my curriculum. This helps me to consistently add diversity, equity, and cultural representation into an academic class you might not think could. The Scholastic Math will allow me to bring in real life examples of uses for math, problems to solve, and exposure to math occupations. Having the materials necessary to triumph while students work will allow them to focus and engage on instruction and their critical thinking skills instead of not having what the class requires. The fact that I am a roving teacher and use others classrooms will allow me to have a place for the students things and to not worry about leaving items necessary to dive in daily. I currently have attempted to adding escape rooms, games, quizziz.com free site to add a bit off competition and different styles of teaching to increase engagement, confidence, and retention of the skills for student.
