  • Prevention> Injury Rehabilitation

    Funded Nov 20, 2021

First and foremost thank you for helping our community. During our basketball season, we use the new resources at least one time a week for tuning up the body. As we continue our playoff run in the PSAL "A" division, we realize that the little things in our workouts has allowed our student-athletes to play with more energy and physical sustain the rigors of a full season.

When our student-athletes first saw the materials, they related to some of their favorite NBA athletes. Through social media, we can witness many professional athletes use the same resources to enhance their strength, flexibility, and endurance levels.

The next step is focus on the off season. An athlete is developed in the off season and these new resources will be used to improve the overall health of our student-athletes.”

  • Rap Bars vs Healthy Bars

    Funded Jul 2, 2019

Our program really appreciates the donations for our item. We apologize in advance for the delay response, we are still waiting on one of the items. It has not arrived and it has been M.I.A for about three weeks. '

We have made good use of the one barbell we have. Many of our current athletes have been performing their squat, lunge, dead-lift, and plyometrics workouts with the item.

A lot of athletes play into adulthood because of the fundamentals of exercise that can be perform using a barbell. We are teaching our adolescents that the importance of maintaining the body is just as important as enhancing their skills within that sport.”

  • Kettlecorn Strength (No Popcorn)

    Funded Dec 19, 2018

The resources provided are used one time a week during our 6:30AM practice. We use kettlebells to help improve our athletes leaping ability, lower body strength, and prevent them from injuries. When my student-athletes witness the opening of the boxes, one of them stated that now our program officially looks like a professional basketball team. As a high school that serves the underprivileged in Harlem New York, we take care of all of our equipment and provide our student-athletes with advance workouts that they witness daily watching their favorite team in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Ever since I learned about Donors choose in 2016, our basketball program has built its fitness room with many equipment to help enhance the skill and conditioning of our student-athletes. Our goal is to continue growing our fitness room so that our program can continue reaching”

  • Hydrate to Perform!

    Funded Nov 8, 2018

We use our resources for every home and away game during the season. The items we have are portable and it has serve our student-athletes as an advantages to their success in the game of basketball. The way that our team reacted when they first saw the material was very special because we allowed our team managers to surprised them with a towel and Gatorade during a timeout. They felt empowered. They felt like professional basketball players.

Even during physical education class, we take out the gallon in case of emergency and we provide water for those who need it.”

  • Flex Power!

    Funded Oct 18, 2018

During our daily dynamic warm-ups, our program has incorporated band core workouts one time a week to better help our student-athletes longevity in competition. We have also attempted to include this during the physical education classes that are happening daily.

When our student-athletes got the opportunity to use the bands for the first time, they made comparisons to their favorite NBA player and how they prepared prior to tipoff. In our basketball program, we treat our athletes like they are elite. At the same time, we require them to conduct themselves like it.”

  • Jumpman, Jumpman, Jumpman, Jumpman, Jumpman with Plyometrics Boxes.

    Funded Apr 30, 2018

Thank you for completing this project and helping our basketball program move a step further in making our equipment room into a certified program. When these resources arrive, we will specifically used them to improve our vertical leap and student-athletes power. As many are aware, basketball is played above the ground. We want to make sure that all our student-athletes understand that and are putting their best foot forward in training the proper way. We are also going to utilize these resources in our physical education classes here at A. Philip Randolph High School. We appreciate you all and the fact the some still care about the details and training of a sport.”

  • Men Lie, Women Lie, Film Doesn't!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you for this wonderful addition to our film room. Our student-athletes can now utilize this tool during their prep periods (lunch, college advisory, etc) to enhance their basketball IQ. On game days, our athletes prep for the opposing team and during the off season they focus on their own personal skills and the details of the game.

The most exciting part of the product is that it is portable. Usually, all our athletes have to report to the film room during prep periods. Now, the coaching staff can split the time between students-athletes in the film room and students-athletes in the library. Time has been maximized because of this product.

Our leading scorers and top defenders have really warmed to this product because they have gained an advantage in constantly being prepared for games. Also, those students have a 85 grade point average and have utilize the technology to complete academic work at the same time.

The Randolph community really appreciates this and hopes that other schools can also reap the benefits of this technology piece.”

  • Athletic Film Room!!!

    Funded May 25, 2017

We use our new athletic film room everyday. During our student-athletes prep periods, they come in and look at practice films, game films, and last year films to improve their basketball game. During after school hours, at least one time a week, we watch full games as a group to enhance our ability to work together on the court. A particular moment that still resonates with me is when one of our players came to the office/film room and mentioned he was not having a good day in a particular class. We had a very deep conversation about authorities and teachers in the real world and he mentioned that this room has become a safe haven for him. I quickly realize that the athletic film room is also a place that can serve the emotional needs of our youth.

Our students were ecstatic and overwhelmed at this idea that we truly are making our basketball program into one of the top programs in New York city. The best reactions come from students who do not belong on the team and are very impress with the path we have taken to enhance our basketball program.

In my opinion, the next steps for our students is learning how to take every resource given to them and utilizing it to be the best version of themselves that they can be. Basketball is something that they all really like, so working a bit hard at is becomes easy. Focusing on academics and becoming true humanitarians to society really allows them to be different.”

  • "If You Look Good You Play Good."

    Funded Aug 27, 2017

We use the ic3 shooting trainer everyday. We use it from 6:45A.M. to 8:45A.M for our first period physical education basketball class. We have multiple drills that the coaching staff has implemented daily to improve our basketball teams shooting percentage as well as students who are enrolled in the basketball class shooting skill. A specific moment so far is using the ic3 in the morning before game day. Basketball season has not officially started. However, some of my students-athletes play on outside leagues and tournaments. Prior to a game, they report to the gym and shoot for 200 makes in the morning. Several of my student-athletes have disclosed to me that they appreciate the device because it has built confidence in their overall basketball and shooting.

When the basketball team first saw the material, they were amazed because they never thought someone would help our school attain such a costly and valuable basketball accessory. My student-athletes thought that only elite basketball programs would have the ic3 Trainer device. I told them that many people in the world still care about team sports and the student-athlete. The "CougarNationHarlem" community which is comprise of student body, parents, school staff, and neighborhood is also very excited to know we have a device like this out our disposal.

Next steps for our boys basketball program will be to attain the Dr. Dish shooting machine. This machine will allow our basketball student-athletes to allocate more shot attempts at a faster rate. We made a playoff appearance last year and we will only continue to get better as a program. The Dr. Dish is very expensive, but I know that with the right support and time, we can attain that purchase.”

  • Basketball Toys to IMPROVE!!!

    Funded Dec 22, 2016

Many financially successful people view X amount of money donated as a small contribution to a program or schools success. I am writing from the bottom of my heart that your donations have made our Boys Basketball Program richer. The equipment donated is something that our basketball team will use daily and possibly twice within a day. During morning 7:15AM shoot-around sessions before school begins and basketball practice after school. Everyday our guards have to make 150 shots in 45 minutes. Using the defensive mannequins will allow our shooting to be more game-like and will improve our "in game" shooting.

When my student-athletes first saw the defensive mannequins and running weighted speed bags, they were shocked because they know that our school is unable to afford equipment of that nature. They quickly asked me if I bought it and I proceeded to have a team meeting and inform them that generous individuals donated the equipment. Ironically, on the same day that they first saw the equipment, we were on our way after practice to serve homeless people in downtown Manhattan. I teach all of my student-athletes that they must serve others and treat all with respect. That particular day was so symbolic since they gave 4 hours of their time to make the food and provide the food to homeless New Yorkers. "He who gives shall receive." I love this quote because the more people I help, the more I receive. But what I want to receive will always be for the young adolescents I work with daily. Satisfaction to me comes from helping others.

Again, me and my team appreciate the donations from the bottom of our hearts. We are confident that this equipment will last 15-20 years and will be used for generations to come.”

These material will enable my student-athletes to gain confidence in themselves. I treat them with respect and prepare them to be successful when they reach life after basketball. The athletes I coach have never experience a detailed training session in their respective sport of basketball due to their community circumstances. The equipment such as the Weight Sprint Trainers, that I am requesting is viewed as a luxury tool. My student-athletes are not aware that tools I am requesting are essential in order to develop into a complete basketball player. The school, community, students, and parents will appreciate and cherish the equipment for a lifetime. Thank you in advance!!!
