The family literacy night in a bag will allow students to checkout a backpack (one backpack for each ELA class) full of literacy games for the week such as Apples to Apples and Rory's Story Cubes. With a wide range of games students will be able to play games that will include the entire family. Students will also have the opportunity to write about their experience in the provided journal. Once the backpack is returned with all materials, the student can choose a book to keep for participating. Allowing students to enjoy literacy games with their families will encourage a home to school connection. I hope this connection will continue throughout the school year and will allow my students to be successful in English Language Arts.
