Multi-Sensory Approach to Learning Sight Words

Funded Oct 25, 2019

Thank you again for your generosity and contributions you made to our classroom project. My students have already began using the hands on materials. I have slowly started introducing them so they learn how to use them appropriately. We use the multi-sensory materials during a time I call "Morning Tubs." The materials are grouped by colors and student needs. As soon as the students come in, they go to the color group that is assigned to them and they get going. This is a great way to ease them into the morning, say hi to friends and start learning right away.

When we first received the materials it was like "Christmas" in my classroom. They wanted to begin using it all! The morning system guided the students and kept it organized. They were able to work independently while still reinforcing the sight words. By keeping them engaged, I was able to work with my struggling readers. I also ordered some whole class materials like the CD's and stepping stones. Those have been fun to for the whole class to review the new words.

They are definitely excited and it's been fantastic for our daily routines. It has kept their interest and met the needs of varying types of learners. Mid year data has shown considerable improvement in sight word recognition. I'm proud of my students. I am thankful to you for helping me make all this possible. Thank you for believing in us and the power of education.”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Garcia
