What kid doesn't love to get their hands dirty with paint and can't resist playing with a ball of clay? My third graders are no different - our weekly STEAM (art) stations are the highlight of their week. Each Tuesday afternoon they have a chance to express themselves through art, whether it be clay molding, pearler beads, drawing, or a variety of other things. However, the art projects that they complete go beyond simply putting colors on a page - the students are learning life skills that they will take with them into the future. Through art, students are learning self-worth, acceptance of their mistakes, tolerance of differences, patience while learning something new, and creativity in a variety of disciplines. As our school does not have Art as a weekly special, without these STEAM/Art stations my students do not have any time programmed into the curriculum to express themselves though art. Because I teach a gifted/accelerated class, the academics are very rigorous and students work very hard to achieve their academic goals; however, many of them crave an opportunity to display their creative and artistic strengths and talents. The objects that are on my list have all been worked into weekly craft/art projects that will be distributed throughout the year. Students will be working on the following (and many other projects) and will have a chance to display them in the classroom and then take them home when they are finished. 1. Clay pots 2. Foil engraving 3. Drawing/Tracing 4. Pastel Drawings 5. Perler Beads 6. Thumb Print Designs 7. Origami 8. Shrinking Plastic Designs 9. Homemade Game Board and Pieces 10. Self Portraits Please help me get the supplies that we need in order for my students to successfully participate in artistic expression this school year.
