  • Book Buddy Organization Keeps Us Reading!

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

I was honestly surprised at the profound impact that a new organization system had on my readers. Because of your generous donations I was able to add two new book cases and 24 new book boxes to store the books on the shelves. This allows the partnership books to be more spread out amongst the bins. This way the books at the back of the bins aren't forgotten about! It allows me to separate books by both author and genres. Kids are reading new books and exploring new authors because of a strong organization system!

In addition, I was able to get an organization system for the way students turn in their work. I work with all grade levels kindergarten through fifth grade so having a space for each grade to turn in their work has been so helpful! I can't thank you enough for helping my classroom stay organized and inspiriting young readers to read!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Jaquette

  • Books and Games for Kids of All Grades!

    Funded Aug 13, 2024

It has been so wonderful getting to offer my students all kinds of new books for their partnership book study! Students are paired with another reader from their class. Then they are tasked with working together to choose a novel to read over the course of a month. I have created month long units for each book that students have chosen to read. The students work together to create a schedule that outlines how much they will read each night. Then they come together both in their classrooms and when they are with me to discuss the book and to write about it.

The culmination of this round of partnership books will be a "book fair" where students present to their classmates a project on their chosen book. They will then give a recommendation to their classmates on what types of readers would enjoy this book and why. This is in hopes that classmates will inspire each other to read new and different novels.

Having such a variety of books to choose from ensures that all readers can find a book they love. After all, it only takes one great book to inspire a love a reading for a lifetime!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Jaquette

  • Book Partner Library to Inspire Young Readers

    Funded Sep 1, 2023

This project has already made an impact on my students. They have chosen books together with their partners, and set schedules to read at home. Each week the students will come together and have meaningful conversations about what they read. Because they get to choose their own book to read and because the books are shiny and new, they are so excited to start reading.

In addition to the books, I was able to get some math curriculum for my gifted students. It is exactly what I need to push my students the extra mile. The curriculum from the Gifted Center at William and Mary is easy to implement and thoughtfully designed to push students critical thinking skills. They were so engaged right off the bat!”

    With gratitude,

  • Wiggle While We Work!

    Funded Mar 12, 2020

I got my wobble stools in March of 2020. Sadly there were no students in school to wobble on them. Then when August 2020 came, I couldn't wait to get those kids wobbling! Sadly we had to wait. On October 21, 2020 the moment finally arrived...I had students in-person and boy were they ready to wobble.

I offered the stools to a few students at first and they quickly became a hit! It allowed students just the right amount of movement that could help them focus. They were able to sit on the stools, wobble a bit, and focus on the lesson all at the same time! They are not at all distracting and really help students increase productivity. My students love them so much they even chose to each their lunches on them!

Unfortunately our time on the stools was cut short after only 7 days together in the classroom before we were back into remote learning. I am hopeful that when we return to school (hopefully early 2021) the students will be back to wobbling while they work.

Thank you beyond for you support on this project!”

  • Mailboxes for Mathematicians!

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

I can't thank you enough for the mailboxes. They have provided each student in both of my math classes a personal place in the classroom to store their things. They are able to come right into the classroom, get their materials and get started. They have truly changed the way we get ready to learn!

As one student said, "They really brighten up the room!" These mailboxes are not only sturdy but they are very aesthetically pleasing! The mailboxes are able to hold the students folders, notebooks, homework books, and student workbooks.

These mailboxes are wonderful! They will bring a new level of organization to students for years to come. I so appreciated your kind donation to help these fifth grade mathematicians.

    Thanks again!”

  • Chromebooks to Inspire Social Action!

    Funded Dec 23, 2016

I can't thank you enough for the chrome books. They have been a wonderful addition to our classroom. The students have been working hard on their various different research initiatives this trimester. Our current project has the students researching a "mystery island" and determining whether or not such a place could be inhabited by humans. Using their knowledge of plate tectonics and researching daily earthquake activity around the earth they are deciding what life might be like for humans on their island. They are able to research using our chrome books and then use their new-found information to make important decisions on what life might be like in the future.

We are also gearing up for our exhibition project. This project will have students take on their own initiative on how to make our world a better place. They will choose between social and environmental issues and they will create their own lines to inquiry around an important issue. The chrome books will be vital in providing kids the information they need to truly make a difference not only in our community, but in our world.

Thanks again for truly making a difference in our students' education!”
