About a month ago, I brought in two bean bag chairs for the kiddos to rent for the day(using our classroom economy money), and I've found that the students sitting in those chairs are much more relaxed, on task, and less of a distraction to the rest of the room. My goal is to remove a few of my tables and replace them with about a dozen alternative seating options. I believe I will achieve similar results as I did with the bean bags, and it will allow for a much more successful learning environment. Whoever thought hard plastic chairs were the best option to achieve optimal learning and participation was very wrong. Allowing them to sit back and relax while they collaborate or complete independent work will allow them to concentrate and enjoy the learning experience in a completely different way. Giving a variety of options, from yoga mats on the floor to zero gravity chairs, will allow the students to experience a variety of options while diving into the truly unlimited world that is Science and Social Studies.
