  • Art Supplies for Social and Emotional Activities

    Funded Aug 15, 2023

Our class would like to thank you for your donations to our classroom. We were overjoyed when the boxes arrived in our room. We have been enjoying the donations and the impact they have had on us since they arrived in the mail.

My students have seen positive results while using the supplies for social and emotional activities. They have enjoyed using the seat sacks to send encouraging letters, kind words and pictures to others. We have been able to use all of our art supplies to create and display our creations. We use our magnetic clips, shelves and push pins to share our pictures with others. The positivity that our colorful notes and posters has created is amazing.

Thank you again for helping us through your donations to bring color and creativity throughout our classroom. We have learned to create a environment that thrives on kindness and encouragement.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. G.

  • Crazy for Chromebooks! Part 2

    Funded Jan 29, 2019

My students were so excited when we opened our new Chromebook! We use technology on a daily basis in our classroom and the excitement on their faces when they found out we have another "tool" to use was priceless. We are using it to take AR quizzes, play cool math and reading games, we use our Chromebook to look up new and interesting questions and facts, and we can even listen to stories on our new laptop.

My students are truly amazed at the simple fact that they can type in a question on Google on their new Chromebook and it brings up a plethora of answers. We've been identifying and counting coins in class and I have had the students look up some simple facts about coins. They have had to find out who is on the face of the coins and bills and what each picture represents on the back of coins. This is just one example of the things we've been able to do.

Thank you again for your generous donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. G.

  • Wiggle & Wobble With Hokki Stools

    Funded Jan 1, 2019

The students were so excited when they opened our boxes and saw our new Hokki stools. Many of the students had never seen anything like them before and were very curious what we would be doing with them.

There are so many different learning styles to each and every student in the classroom. Second graders need a way to get the wiggles out and our Hokki stools have been a huge help to some of my students. They have been extremely valuable in contributing to alternative seating in our classroom. Students have been able to sit on the stools while working on a variety of learning activities. They are staying attentive and continue to be motivated for learning.

The goal is to continue to use these daily to move and focus at the same time.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. G.

  • Show Me the Money!

    Funded Sep 13, 2018

Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom. My students were so excited when we received our coin trays. They couldn't wait to open them up and begin using them!

We have used our coin trays to identify coins and their values, sort and count the money. We have used our coins to "purchase" snacks for snack time in our classroom. They look forward to counting out how much they need to buy their daily snack. We have also used our coins to help us "hands-on" for our money lessons in math.

In the future, I plan to use our coin trays on our 100th day of school. We will use them with the story Alexander Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday. They will use coins to show different ways to make 100 cents.

Thank you so much for supporting my students and my project!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. G.

The students will use financial literacy to reinforce money skills. For example, we will read the story Alexander, Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday by Judith Viorst and discuss the ways he uses money to purchase goods as a consumer. I will give them $1.00 from the money trays and have students plan how they will budget and buy "classroom snacks" throughout the week. They will write down how much money they need and how much money they will have left. Financial literacy for kids is about ensuring that they are educated on the best way to manage finances. Another financial literacy money activity that we will use with the money trays will be "Coin Riddles: What's in Your Wallet?" We will put a collection of coins equaling no more than $1.00 in a "purse or wallet". The exact quantity of each coin will depend on the riddle written on the wallet. For example: There are 4 coins. The coins total 30 cents. What coins do I have? This will help my students understand the value of money and how to manage it.
