During the beginning of a lot of my lessons, I sit with my students on the classroom carpet and read a story. This story always relates back to what we are learning about and helps to make a connection between art and literacy. I'm requesting a variety of books including The Rainbow Fish, I Am Human: A Book of Empathy, Action Jackson, The Magical Garden of Claude Monet, When Pigasso Met Mootisse, van Gogh and the Sunflowers, Why Is Blue Dog Blue, and How the Crayons Saved the Rainbow. These books will be added to my sparse art class library to enhance the literacy rich art curriculum that I strive to create. With these new books added to my classroom students will enhance their literacy skills and desire for reading through ART! These books will be a vital aspect to our art curriculum and are an aspect of art class that my students love. They enjoy learning and reading about an artist or a story and then incorporating it into their art making, all while making art and literacy connections along the way! In addition my students gain literacy skills through labeled materials, charts and posters in the classroom, where they are able to associate words with the materials and ideas they are learning about. Thus why I am wanting to add a Cricut Explore Air 2 to my classroom. Having a Cricut will be a cost effective way for me to incorporate more literacy into my art program's daily routine.
