Ready. Tech. Go.

Funded Sep 27, 2016

I am still in shock at how fast my project was funded and how quickly the new chrome books arrived! My students are excited about the addition of technology in our classroom. It is a challenge to be able to teach technology skills to each of my students when so many students have to share one device. The addition of four chrome books this year has added on to our number of devices and gets us a step closer to becoming a 1:1 classroom.

Although my sixth grade students seem to be "tech" savvy, I often find that they lack real knowledge in how to use technology to enhance their learning. I always tell them "I know you can push buttons and click the mouse, but what I want you to know is how to use critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills to approach an "overload of information" to sort out the useful from the useless.

Overall, students are excited with any type of technology in the classroom as they do not know life without it. My desire is to teach them how to use it effectively as a life-long learner. With training and coaching, students can become receptive to learning how to use technology as a tool and not as a replacement for their own thinking.”

With gratitude,
