  • Help My Students Apply to College!

    Funded Apr 16, 2018

Thank you very much for your donations to this project! As the college counselor, I meet with students weekly beginning in 11th grade to begin discussing all aspects of the college application process, including creating a college list, drafting a resume and researching financial aid options. As out students enter their Senior year, they are now faced with the challenge of submitting their college and scholarship applications.

Since most college applications are done online, my students struggle with accessing the technology necessary in order to complete them. Many of my students do not have the technology at home that allows them to submit their college applications. As a result, many of them still submit paper applications, which results in delayed processing times as well as items getting lost in the mail.

Through this project, my students have been able to submit their college applications electronically and on time. By using this technology, my students can now work on their personal statements, resumes and other components of the application in my office while having my assistance. As a result of using all of this technology, over 95% of the graduating seniors have submitted their college applications. Thank you for allowing them to have that opportunity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cuevas

  • SAT Prep for Rising Seniors!

    Funded Aug 17, 2017

Thank you all so much for your generosity! This will certainly help my students achieve their college dreams! My students have been asking for SAT prep and now, by having the proper resources, it will allow me to best prepare them for such an important exam. On behalf of all my students, thank you once again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cuevas

At our school, 11th and 12th grade students are schedule to take a course called 'College Advisory'. As the college counselor, I meet with students to discuss all aspects of the college application process, including creating a college list, drafting a resume and researching financial aid options. One roadblock our students have consistently faced is the SATs. Students are experiencing increased anxiety towards the SATs due to the lack of proper preparation. As a result of having a lack of preparation for the SATs, our students are potentially limiting their college options. Through this project, I will be able to provide my students with the Kaplan Test Prep book as part of the College Advisory curriculum. I plan on starting SAT prep focusing on the Reading and Writing section using this book, as having a strong foundation in this particular area will increase student performance on the Math portion of the SAT as well.
