  • New Books for New Freshmen!

    Funded Aug 29, 2017

Thanks so much for contributing to this project - it will make a huge difference to my students. Sherman Alexie has an important message about success and resilience, and I can't wait to share it with them. Thank you for making it possible for me to welcome my new freshman with new books.”

  • Computers for Academic Workshop

    Funded Nov 19, 2016

I want to give a heart-felt thank you to all of the people who donated to my project. Having access to computers is a huge equity issue for our students. Many students do not have internet access or computers at home, and having these computers to work on gives them the technology they need to be successful. Not only are these computers used every day by the students in my academic workshop, but they are frequently used at lunch by students catching up on their work. Thank you again to everyone who donated - you have made a big difference in the lives of students at East High School.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gump

Academic Workshop at East is a workshop where students can access teachers, peers and technology so they can be successful in their AP and honors classes. Academic Workshop is only in its second year at East, and it has already helped students succeed in their AP level coursework. One way Academic Workshop addresses equity issues in our student's lives is to provide access to computers in the workshop which supports AP Composition and AP Literature, which I teach. My class has fourteen students, and I currently have only a few older netbooks and laptops. The computers in this project will increase access to technology and give my students tools which they need to improve their writing, a valuable skill which will serve them in college and in their lives after college.
