My favorite part of teaching 3rd grade is the time I get to sit on the carpet and read, share stories, and discover the wonders of life together with the children. We listen, we talk, and we learn as we explore the world, real and imaginary, through literature and math concepts. The "mission" carpet is where the children have a more relaxed, less standard sitting area to learn. I feel that a relaxed classroom area on the carpet is where my students open-up the hearts to share together and be up-close to our school "family". They become more engaged in discussion and build a trust that increases their care of others in and out of the classroom setting. In the floods, my school received more than a foot of water the destroyed our "mission possible" carpet, as well as most of my literature for my students to use to explore the world. Therefore, the books listed on my project are to replace some lost by the water. In the end, this project is a step in rebuilding the "Mission Possible: Courage from the Water"
