  • Weighted Animals and Seating

    Funded Jan 26, 2018

Thank you for your generous donations to my students. The weighted snakes and chairs help the students relax and focus. Plus, they absolutely love them and now even ask if they can go read! The snakes also help the students calm down when they become over stimulated. Items like these are so important in a special education classroom and truly make a difference in the education of students with special needs.

Once again thank you for your donation and it is because of caring people like you that my students now have a special area to read and focus the classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Munoz

  • Reading Center Activity Tools

    Funded Oct 20, 2016

    Dear Donors,

My students were so excited when our books and reading phones arrived. They began to use the reading phones immediately. The look on their faces when the heard themselves read was priceless. These materials have already helped improve my students reading and listening comprehension.

I will continue to use these materials to improve my students listening skills, reading comprehension, letter sound recognition and decoding skills.

It is because of your generosity that my students now have the tools they need to improve their reading skills and reach their goals.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Munoz

  • An Interactive Approach to Building Reading Skills

    Funded Sep 30, 2016

My students love their new listening center and books! Some children have already improved their reading skills by using the center and reading materials. The reading phones are an amazing tool. The children are able to hear themselves read which is improving their reading fluency. They are now very excited during reading time and are actively engaged. Their listening comprehension is growing thanks to your help. It's because of your generosity that my students now have the tools they need to help them succeed.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Munoz

Studies have shown that students with access to a listening library develop 1) a greater interest in reading, 2) improved literacy skills and comprehension and 3) increased vocabulary and syntax levels. It's my hope to create a listening center with a library of stories as diverse as my students. Listening centers involve the use of headphones for students to listen to Cd's or MP3 files while reading along with the accompanying picture book. My students are in need of a listening center that can accommodate 4 or more students. By using books with read along CD's, I believe that a listening center will be both interesting and relevant to my students and will improve their reading comprehension skills. If my students had a listening center, they could then listen, and follow along with books of their choosing with ease. I'd love to see my students benefit through the use of this modern technology.
