As a second year teacher, I'm feeling much more confident in what I am doing. With that said, I know what I was missing last year and how those things can benefit me this year as I build my skills as a teacher. My current classroom has white boards that are peeling and breaking so I am hoping to replace them with newer magnetic boards. Magnetic white boards will be very useful in reading when we are building foundational skills in phonemic awareness as well as in math, where students will be able to write while using magnetic counters. We also need play dough to use as manipulatives in reading, math, and free play. In addition, a major goal this year is teaching my students organizational skills that will benefit them both at school and at home. I would use the storage center as a mailbox for my students where they would be responsible for their daily work, homework, and any papers that need to go home to their families. Giving them responsibility for their own things at an early age will only benefit them as they grow older.
