  • Reading Oasis: Cultivating a Love for Books

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

On behalf of my students and myself, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your generous donation of books. Your kindness has made a profound impact on our classroom and has truly helped ignite a love of reading in our students.

Since receving the books, our classroom has transformed into a vibrant reading community. Students eagerly choose books during independent reading time, excited to dive into new stores, explore different worlds, and connect with characters who reflect their own lives and experiences. It's been a joy to watch their enthusiasm grow-- students now ask to read more often, recommend books to each other, engage in rich discussions about what they've read.

Many of my students had limited access to engaging and age-appropriate books, but your

donation has changed that. Your support has helped foster a culture of curiosity, imagination, and confidence in young readers who are now developing lifelong literacy habits.

Thank you for believing in our students and helping us build a strong foundation for their academic and personal growth.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Griffin

  • Learning to Love Reading: Graphically!

    Funded Dec 13, 2019

Sometimes a simple thing as reading a book can go so far for so many students.

Words cannot express how grateful we are for your genorosity in affording us this oppurtunity.

We are looking forward to delving into all of the wonderful books, and, again, we are endlessly grateful for your generous gift.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Griffin

It is very important for children to grow up within an environment that promotes a positive rapport toward reading. These graphic novels would enable me to reach reluctant readers. These visually stimulating stories afford students with an opportunity to understand the sequence of events, interpret characters’ nonverbal gestures, the plot of a story and make inferences. Through graphic novels, my students would be to develop inferencing and literary skills that apply when interacting with photos, paintings, and other people. Most importantly these stimulating stories create a gateway to a deeper understanding of a text. The variety of selected graphic novels would certainly pique the interest of my students and support or daily reading routines. We read daily for at least 20 minutes throughout the school day and students are required to read for at least 20 minutes for homework. These graphic novels will allow them to select a book that interests them and increases their chances of actually reading a book in its entirety. This project is a great way to help my students grow stronger in reading and develop a passion to read all genres.
