  • Fossil Digging and Dinos!

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

Stem foundations and new science standards are becoming the norm for most public and private schools across the country. The United States must continue to promote science and engineering as a means to encourage great thinking in our children. These kits are very simple, yet are designed to spark deeper critical thinking, and stimulate creativity as well. I am privileged to work in a field that allows me to foster this creativity in a new generation of children.

I am so thankful that this request was funded by wonderful people like you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Lavezzo

  • Reading Clubs and Quality Books Too!

    Funded Aug 18, 2022

I have found the key to better reading comprehension for my students is to provide them with quality fiction that has enough humor in it to keep them interested. This allows them to practice developing reading strategies they've learned, and still read a great book. I must have good literature available whenever they are ready to read. They won't read it unless they relate to it in some way. I've found that connection for fourth graders- humor.

As their teacher, it is my responsibility to help my students develop a natural interest in reading. If I can allow them access to library titles, this will enhance their English

    Language Arts instructional time.

Thank you for helping me continue to do great work in my classroom.”

  • What Did She Say?

    Funded Apr 21, 2022

I've now had the opportunity to use the PA system you so generously provided. The introduction of this technology to my classroom will positively impact student learning because when students are able to hear their own voices, this makes them not only better public speakers. I've now used the system to play music, and we will soon be listening to audio novels. This is a versatile system. I've only just begun to explore the new aspects of learning the system provides.

Thank you for helping me be a better teacher!”

  • Why Buy It When You Can Build It Yourself?

    Funded Jan 1, 2022

Fourth graders begin to learn about the natural world, and I like to encourage this interest by incorporating a buildable project whenever possible. All written reports are complemented by the model. These projects allow the students to practice individuality and creativity and also include a shelf to display the finished model. In addition, all work is done in class. I really appreciate you donating to this project, and helping give my fourth graders this opportunity. Now they will remember fourth grade for something other than having to wear a mask all the time.”

  • Just the Basics?

    Funded Aug 15, 2020

Teachers are asked by administration to do amazing things for their amazing children. Those that ask often have grandiose expectations but can provide little or no assistance. We are currently in the middle of an especially difficult time, and we need to make life easier for each other. I wanted to help provide some simple school supplies for my students so that their families could think about something else-like how they are going to work their own job, and become assistant technology experts for their children. Our district celebrates how everyone gets a computer to take home-but you need to learn how to use it later-and get your own pencils...

So these supplies were met by most with relief. Thank you very much to those of you that made this giveaway possible.”

  • Let Me Make Sure You Understand.

    Funded Jul 30, 2020

Teaching children was challenging enough without throwing in things like a global epidemic, wildfires, and earthquakes! This has been quite a difficult year for everyone. One thing is constant though, the generosity and understanding of donors like you. By providing me a way to convey ideas with these boards, you've helped ease my frustration. That makes my teaching better. That's good for everyone...

I've used them several times now, and I know when we get back to the classroom I will continue to use them. A stationary board means you need to go there to learn. A mobil board allows the learning to be brought to the kids in a much more efficient way.

    Again, thanks for helping.”

    Mr. Lavezzo

I've recently relocated to another crowded inner city school. My new classroom presents many of the same problems that were solved through the generosity of donors in my previous school. My quest for equity continues. My new classroom is unacceptably behind in both technology for excellent instruction, and in simple comforts like good books to read and even a little rug to sit on.
