3D Printing for STEM Grades 9-12
Funded Sep 29, 2016First let me express my deep thanks for your generosity. The 3D printers you donated go a long way in benefiting our students. Our school now has a 3D printing club that meets every Wednesday to design and print new objects. I have coupled our 3D printers with our school's Chromebooks. First, students started to research websites including Thingiverse to discover how to print 3D objects. Each student then downloads the object in .STL format and uploads it into FlashPrint, a program that is supplied with the printers themselves. This software program allows students to manipulate print thickness, speed, and infill percentage. Then students prep each printer with masking tape and glue and send the file to the printer.
The entire 3D printing process is filled with opportunities for students to work with emerging technology and applied it in practical, educational, and creative ways. Our newly formed club has received widespread attention among campus. We have even partnered with our school's business academy to produce sunglasses that their academy uses during demonstrations in Virtual Enterprise.
Thank you again for this donation. We have never felt so much gratitude as with this donation. These printers will keep my students busy for years to come.”
