SEL and STEM!
Funded Dec 31, 2021I just want to thank you for your generosity. By providing us with the funding for these legos and STEM materials students were able to get a better understanding of the concept of Engineering through a hands on approach.
They were able to take their vision and put it on paper and watch it unfold. Here are some pictures to help you better understand what they created.
This STEM activity provides students with the opportunity to learn through experience where they talk and engage in discourse. They learn by shaping arguments and solving problems in the course of a continuous process of asking questions, experimenting, designing, creating, and gathering evidence.
A quote from a student "I love this because I can now understand better the importance of engineering, I built it with my own hands. I had to work together and see how things went wrong and we fixed it -with our own hands! This is awesome!" With that, I thank you all for funding this project.”

Coding Without Computers
Funded Dec 15, 2016We have been studying coding on the computer and have seen some fun programs. We have learned the importance of sequencing as well as the attention focusing on details. With the code and go robot mouse, we are now able to have a hands on approach to apply those details.
With this activity we are able to apply coding skills without a computer. Students can now actively engage in the building of the grid. (which in most coding programs have already been built for them) They need to use problem solving skills and work collaboratively with others in order to understand how to properly link the grids before any programming begins. The grid pieces link together to form one large square maze board or can make any configuration which allows for creativity. It allows students to be active, visual, engaging, and most importantly, fun. There is a role for all students.
Programming the mouse to maneuver through the maze to get to the cheese in turn helps kids to develop critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical thinking skills. Formulating a follow-able path for the mouse also enables kids to develop important coding skills including directional concepts, sequential thought processing, and visual tracking skills.
