Pick A Spot At The Math Cafe'
Funded Nov 6, 2017Oftentimes we walk into our classrooms annoyed because we feel it's going to be another boring lesson to learn. You have helped our teacher make math even more interesting for us to learn starting with the feel of the classroom environment. We have found that by having a comfortable learning environment where our teacher allows us to rotate the areas, we are very much engaged and excited to work in groups with our peers to complete our assigned math tasks. It no longer feels like we are walking into a regular math classroom. Our teacher gives us choices daily by allowing us to choose where we want to work and to even listen to music while doing our work - if she's not up teaching. We have to be careful though because those privileges may be taken away if abused.
Our Math Cafe' makes us feel like we are at a college or university. Everyday, we get a glimpse of what college life feels like by having certain freedoms to learn but having our teacher there to answer questions is an added bonus. We are trying our best to take good care of the furniture and help keep the classroom clean because we would hate for it to be ruined or for our teacher to take it away. Actually, we hope that we can get more furniture in the future and get rid of more of the traditional tables and chairs.
Flexible seating options have been fun and inviting. Although some people may think a flexible classroom will cause chaos and laziness, it has been the complete opposite in our classroom. We enter the classroom excited to learn but get sad when the bell rings and it's time to leave. It's definitely now the cool classroom where math is no longer as scary to face. Thank you again for your generosity to help us learn better and the support for our teacher's vision.”

Funded Nov 7, 2016Considering that many of my students do not have personal computers or Internet connection at home, this has been helpful in the teaching and learning process. The use of these Chromebooks has created an environment for self-exploration, adventure, discovery and fun in the designated math stations.
Through apps such as NearPod, IXL, Formative, Quizizz, and Zaption, just to name a few, our students are enjoying ready-to-teach, interactive lessons and formative assessments. The ESL/ELL students have really enjoyed using the Chromebooks for learning Math in the English language through YouTube and IXL. Also, it's been pretty awesome to bring social media into the classroom through Edmodo and Twitter as a means of creating connected learning communities.
Your generation donation to our classroom project will help our students shape their thinking and writing in math and promote literacy by building their skills, vocabulary, and making the connections through real-world applications! You have made a difference in helping us kick-start our initiative to go digital and transform into a 21st century classroom driven by the latest technologies. I am forever grateful for your support and investment in our youth by helping to provide quality math education that will foster an innovative, engaging learning process for ALL students. Thank you for being apart of our village to inspire our students to be lifelong learners who are falling in love with learning through our mathematical journey!”
