Recycling for a Better Future!
Funded Oct 17, 2016The environmental club students are using and promoting our school's new "be green" initiative every day! Your donation of over 50 recycle bins has been wonderful in that initiative for our school. On a weekly basis, our environmentalists go from class to class, collecting recyclable paper and cardboard and transferring it to our large commercial bin in the back of the building. This project has not only made our environmentalists better global citizens; it has also influenced our student body and staff in the same way. So much so, I've even had non-environmental club students asking to participate in the project.
Before we received our "official" blue recycle bins, we were revamping old copy paper boxes into recycle bins. The only problem was that sometimes the custodians (or other people) would mistake them for trash and throw them away. We were frustrated and really needed a solution to our lack of recycling problem. When we found out that our project was approved through DonnorsChoose.org, we were elated that we were finally getting "real" recycle bins. When the bins finally arrived, the student were ecstatic! They wanted to immediately survey the building to find out which teachers wanted a bin in their room to participate in the project. They came back with so many names that I had to do a drawing to decide which teachers to choose. At the end, everyone (both teachers and students) who really wanted a bin in their classroom received one and couldn't wait to begin.
Now, at this point, our school has a fully functioning recycling program. We're excited to have over 50 rooms currently participating but our school contains over 100 rooms. Our goal for the future is to have a recycle bin in every single room in this building. We plan to create another DonorsChoose.org project next school year and hope to get enough recycle bins to achieve our goal. We can't wait!
From the bottom of our hearts, our environmental club thanks you for all that you've done for us and our school.”
With gratitude,
Dr. Jean-Pierre
