Fueling Curiosity: Classroom Tools for Active Learning
Funded Sep 19, 2024The new supplies have been a game-changer in our classroom! The notebooks and paper have become essential tools for our daily journaling sessions, where students reflect on their learning and express their thoughts creatively. The folders and organizers are helping students keep their assignments and worksheets neatly arranged, fostering a sense of responsibility and independence. A specific moment that stands out was during a group project where students created interactive organizers to summarize their reading material. Watching them collaborate, share ideas, and use the folders to keep their work tidy was a proud moment for me as their teacher.
The bulletin board decorations have also transformed our learning space into a vibrant and welcoming environment. We recently completed a "Goals for the Year" bulletin board where students wrote down their aspirations and displayed them alongside motivational visuals. This has become a source of daily inspiration and pride for everyone.
The excitement on my students' faces when they first saw the materials was priceless! They couldn't believe they had new supplies just for them. Many of my students come from families where resources can be limited, so having their own pencils, notebooks, and folders was incredibly special. One student exclaimed, "I feel like I'm ready for college!" while another couldn't wait to start using the new paper to sketch and write. Their joy and enthusiasm reminded me just how much these small things can make a big impact.
We are currently working on a research project where students will explore a topic of their choice and create an organized presentation. The new supplies will play a huge role in this process. Students are using their notebooks to brainstorm ideas and outline their research. The folders are helping them keep track of their notes, drafts, and resources, ensuring they stay organized as they move through each step.
Our next big milestone is creating final presentations, where students will use the organizers to design visually appealing project boards or binders to share their findings with the class. This project not only builds research and writing skills but also boosts their confidence as they proudly showcase their hard work. I'm excited to see their creativity shine through, and I know the donors' contributions have made this possible.”

Funded Nov 29, 2022My students have been so excited to use their new iPads. We have downloaded many different coding games and activities. Every time they come to my class, they cannot wait to get out the iPads and get started. Some of my students have learned to use the iPads better than me!
Having the ability to use these iPads, the children have so much more access to coding material than they had before.
Thank you so much for giving them this amazing opportunity! Without you, none of this could have been possible.”

Funded Oct 26, 2022My students are absolutely loving their new resources! For months they did not have any materials to draw or color with. They were beyond excited to open and use brand new colors that were not dried out. When I told them we had new markers, crayons and paper to use, they all screamed with excitement. It truly was a special day!
Thank you so much for your generous donations and for making my students smile! Now all of their projects are colorful and brighten up the room. They look forward to using them every day to create their most creative projects!”

Funded Sep 29, 2022Thank you so much for helping the ideas of these children come alive.
For years now, our graduating class yearbook has been done solely by teachers. This year, our fifth grade students had asked us if they would be able to help the teachers put together and create the yearbook. We asked them for several ideas and suggestions on how they could be of some assistance. The students met together and decided that their best impact on the yearbook this year would be to help take pictures of activities throughout the year and then submit them to decorative pages in the book.
We were thrilled when they came up with this idea, but then discouraged because we knew we would not be able to provide them with the proper technology to achieve this goal. That's when the idea to create a DonorsChoose project came to mind. Now with these brand new cameras, the student's are now able to take their idea and put it to use. They have been taking pictures daily and helping to create memorable scrapbook pages for the final yearbook!”

Funded Aug 22, 2018Thank you so much for all of the awesome books you helped contribute to my classroom. The children love reading these books everyday!
We have used many of these books to help teach our children about the seven strengths of a super reader! We try to teach about kindness, friendship, courage, curiosity, hope, belonging and confidence. Some of these books like, I am Enough and The Bad Apple, help to show the children what some of these traits look like.
Often, throughout the day, the students refer back to these books and the lessons they taught when they see certain things in the class. We have caught many children showing acts of kindness and friendship throughout the day and we can only hope that it is because of the lessons learned in these books.
Our read aloud time in class is by far our favorite. The children are so engaged and so gracious to all of you. The addition of our new books added a whole new light of excitement to our room.
Thank you!”

Funded Jun 29, 2018Thank you so much for helping enrich our classroom with all of these new materials! Using our color printer has enabled us to take so many colorful pictures to hang in our classroom to brighten up everyone's day. It seems as if color makes everything better and more enjoyable to look at. We have also been able to create "brag tags" for our students to show off all of their achievements in class. Having the color printer has allowed us to print them in color and make the students so much more excited to show them off to their friends.
Our class has fallen in love with the Mo Willems book set, Piggie and Elephant. Having our class and finger puppets to use while reading these books has been a huge hit. Everyday we pick a new set of students to hold the puppets while we are reading and they love it! They use the puppets to act out some of the things that happen in the book!
All of these materials that we received have helped to keep our kids entertained and organized. Our multi-compartment storage unit helps us to organize our brag tags for easier reach. Our dunk hat game has made some of or lessons so much more engaging. What student wouldn't love to "dunk" their teacher. Our goal in this class is to engage our students with more relevant ideas and these materials have helped us to do that. Our kids love coming to school every day to see what we have in store for them!”
