5th grade science is a very difficult subject. The students learn the skills better through hands-on experiments. By using the books to research about owls, the students will get a better understanding of how these animals adapt to their environment. By dissecting the owl pellets, the students will be able to see the importance of the food chain and how food webs work in an ecosystem. The students will be able to see what types of animals owls eat in order to survive. Through hands on experiments and research activities, students will be able to better understand the difficult topics being covered during our unit on animals. Students are able to take these lessons learned in the classroom and apply them to other animals that we discuss in class during this unit. Students will also be using tools that scientists use such as magnifying glasses to help with the experiment. By using these tools, the students will get an idea of how scientists use these tools in the field they are working in.
