Newcomer students who are learning English and acculturation to the United States need visual examples to engage with a new language. The class projector will illustrate examples of powerful writing and speech. The class projector will be important to start the class. At the beginning of class, students will get an overview of our day, week, and semester. The projector will also synthesize important messages about school events and resources.
For English Language Learners, it is essential to visualize the power of language through media. Students apply the skills of observation, analysis, inquiring, and inferring to media texts. We would be looking at movies, speeches, and other video clips to learn about historical events. We would also look at examples of debates and speeches. The final project would be a debate. Students need to watch for examples of speaking styles in order to find their voice and prepare for their debate.
The class projector will give us a lense on how language has been used during important historical events that affect us today.
