Please help my students (3-5 years) with and without disabilities and many dual language learners learn together in person at a safe distance rather than staring at a computer screen! Providing shelter using a canopy with sides will provide access to so much outdoors while accommodating creativity in learning safely away from the restrictions and germs in a classroom, protected by outdoor elements (sun, wind and rain) when necessary. Outside I will have proper ventilation that is not accessible in our old school building where the windows do not even open. We would need a 10x20 canopy with sides to accommodate all students at a safe distance for read alouds and to explore and learn outdoor in their urban environment. We created a Natural Playground at our urban public school and it's where we garden, climb on logs, blow bubbles, write with chalk and paint with water, play a music wall and utilize an exploration table to sort, write with sticks, investigate bugs and worms, rocks and soil etc. For many of these children it's a first experience of school and being away from family. I yearn for their limited time at school to be positive, creating fond memories integrating unique lessons that solidify tricky concepts.
