These materials will be used by my students to make "Stick Stations" to be used with the concept of "Kidstix" by Artie Almeida. The "Stick Station" begins with a large can we recycled from the trash of our school cafeteria and from our school staff. The can is washed and both ends are wrapped in duck tape to make sure no one gets cut. The newly recycled "Crash Can" sits on the floor with the open end on the ground creating a drum. The top of the drum is covered with a piece of craft foam to damper the sound and provide a better bounce for the drumsticks. The full station consists of one "Crash Can" drum, two drumsticks, a tambourine, and a small cutting board. Not only does each child have their very own rhythm station, but when class is over they simply flip the can over and store the whole set in their "Crash Can." This will create a hands-on learning experience where students will be able to actively engage in music with zero downtime, because everyone has their own rhythm station. The "Kidstix" concept is not only fun and engaging, but it also teachs rhythm, form, and exposes students to a wide variety of musical terms, concepts, and literature.
