We will begin the year with our fiction unit. In order to review elements of fiction, students will read The Skin I'm In by Sharon Flake--an engaging and age-appropriate novel. While reading, we will study the elements of fiction and plot, specifically focusing on characterization. Students will consider how their own identity has developed as we discuss the significant changes Maleeka experiences in the novel. By comparing themselves to Maleeka, students will discover a greater understanding of themselves while learning all about the elements of fiction and plot. We are so excited to use The Skin I'm In as we learn more about one another at the beginning of this school year!
