  • Freedom to Move

    Funded Sep 27, 2021

I am very excited that this project was funded! With winter coming soon these materials will help my students continue to develop their gross motor skills and be an outlet for their preschool energy well into the winter season. I am going to need to make some room in my classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Benjamin

  • Books for ALL Kids

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Wow! I can’t believe how quickly this got funded! Thank you everyone who donated for providing my students with books that will provide them with a window and a mirror in this world! The brown students get so excited when they see themselves in books and other materials in the classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Benjamin

  • Marble Ramps

    Funded Dec 31, 2017

My children have gained many experiences through the marble ramps and hollow blocks. The mirrors are scattered around the room and are perfect. I frequently see children standing or sitting by alone looking at themselves and singing or making faces. The hollow blocks are out in the Block Center 24/7. They are a huge addition to the block center not only when building ramps. The hollow blocks are strong enough to hold children and adults so these blocks are coveted because they are the only ones that we can stand and climb on. Recently I had student build a tall tower with steps leading up to it with the hollow blocks. I held their hand while they climbed the steps and when they got to the top they felt so tall and were exclaiming that they were taller than me! Your support for my classroom is greatly appreciated!”

  • Play in the Rain!

    Funded Oct 15, 2018

Although you have given a monetary donation for rain suits and rain boots, you have given the 40 children that are under my care on a daily basis an opportunity for an amazing childhood experience. This experience does not need anything special, rain boots, rain suits and some puddles are all we need! Thank you for your amazing generosity.”

  • Peace Corner Goodies

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

The peace corner has been a great addition to my classroom. The children love to go into the privacy cube. They go in when they're happy just to read books or to look at the feelings dolls I have. They go in when they're sleepy (I have had one child that has fallen asleep in there multiple times this year). They go in when they are sad and crying. I have one pillow in the peace corner and the rest of the pillows in the library. We love to lay on the pillows together and look at books. We are still learning how to use the calm down jars. Some of my children want to stack them instead of looking at them while in the peace corner. We will get there!

Thank you for your support! I could not imagine my classroom without my peace corner now!”

  • Pour Your Own Water

    Funded Apr 11, 2018

I have been wanting these pitchers all year! We encourage independence in our preschool program so this will be the perfect fit! I put snack out for the children to get on their own but there was no way they could get water independently. This will support the children in feeling more empowered!”

  • Everyday Classroom Items

    Funded Mar 24, 2018

I appreciate your generosity! This will go along way to helping me get organized as a first year teacher! The light filters will be great for adding calm lighting to our room! The clipboards will be great to allow the students to write in every center. All of these things will be used on a daily basis!”

  • Playing With Light

    Funded Nov 8, 2017

Thank you so much for your generosity! The light table is so much more than I thought it would be! It changes colors, has fading and strobe settings, and so much more! The kids love it! I have loose parts set out on the light table (vase beads, popsicle sticks, buttons, shells, rocks, etc.). They love making designs and building things. The students who are drawn to the block center to create now have another center where they can fulfill this same urge. Some of my younger students just love to look at the loose parts on the light table. Seeing the light shine through or change the color of certain materials is quite interesting to observe. They just continue to take loose parts out of the box, examine it in their hand and then put it on the light table to examine it. From the complex task of making a design or mandala to simply enjoying the light, my students have many different ways to learn through exploration and play with this light table.”

  • Snow Gear

    Funded Nov 28, 2017

Thank you so much for all of your donations! We had a chance to use our new snow gear in our outdoor classroom! They had a ball! At first I wasn't allowing them to throw snow balls but after I realized that their snowballs are basically little puff balls, I told them to go for it! Next thing I knew they were chasing after me with snowballs! We had such a great time, they did not want to go inside. This was a great bonding and community building experience.

When we went inside we talked about all of the things we did and our favorite parts. This experience allowed the students to have a hand-on experience with the snow that we have been learning about. They know that snow is frozen water but being able to touch it adds to the learning experience. They were able to hear the crunch noise as they walked (we read about this noise in The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats!). I'm sure throughout the rest of the winter we will discover new and exciting things about the snow!”

Light tables are an outstanding starting point for science, discovery, and math for young children! The students will be able to play with shadows, develop spatial awareness, observe and voice observations, make patterns and shapes, play with numbers and amounts, and build. The possibilities are endless! Light tables are an excellent source of visual sensory input that children are naturally drawn to because of the glow of the table. They are often calmed by the visual stimulation as they explore the materials. Some things that I would put out as a provocation for students to explore on the light table would be natural materials such as leaves, sticks, acorns, rocks, and agates. Sensory materials such as sand and water beads are so fun to explore on the light table.
