Scholastic News and Time for Kids magazines will allow students to have a broad knowledge base so that they are able to relate to their learning in a much bigger way. The magazines will allow me as a teacher to expand their knowledge passed the boundaries of the small town they live in. With the content of the magazines I can use them to teach different subjects like reading (non-fiction, graphic features, main idea, summarize, etc) math (graphs, comparing numbers, etc) science (earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis etc), writing, and even use them in centers! Scholastic News and Time magazines bring current events and on-level nonfiction that engages students and will support my curriculum. This is an extraordinary resource that will help build the skills students need most As of now, six 4th grade classes share less than a class set of Scholastic News magazines, which leaves 3-4 students sharing one magazine. It is vital for each student have their own to feel in control of their learning, be engaged, and understand what is being taught.
