The computers will provide a way for students to work daily to extend their learning. Last year my students worked on a “genius hour” project, based on Google’s business practice. Each student chose a subject they were passionate about and started researching. They were very excited to work on something of their choosing. Because of our high population and low technology, we were unable to work on these as much as we would have liked. By having a small set of computers, “Genius hour” will be something students can work several times a week. Students will truly be able to immerse themselves in their research of real life concerns and find solutions for things. Their creativity will have a way of enriching themselves and others. We will also use the computers to help with reading instruction and practice. Small group math activities will be used daily. Students will become experts with technology and learn that it can be used for much more than entertainment.
