The students I teach were all born after the year 2000. This makes them a part of the "iGeneration". These students do not know the world without internet, Google, and cell phones! The world is changing rapidly, and our classrooms must change with it. Classrooms should not look and function the same way they did when I was in high school. As an educator, it is my job to adapt my teaching style and classroom environment to best suit the students who are in it.
A small set of Chromebooks would absolutely transform the functionality of my classroom! I teach visual art to high school students. Without computers, I present learning material to my students through books, handouts, and Power Point presentations. While these sources are still useful, having the addition of some computers in the classroom would change the way my students are able to learn about art. I have a nice collection of art books, with beautiful color images, but the internet is a far superior resource for looking at artwork. The students would be able to access just about any image of an artwork that exists, with the use of a computer. No more black and white photocopies for us! Along with viewing images of artwork, students will be able to conduct research on artists, art movements, technique videos, image references, and so much more.
With this small set of Chromebooks, I would be able to cover much more material and in such greater depth. Students of the iGeneration respond so positively to working with technology. This resource would be something that would benefit my students for many years!
