Although I teach Special Education, my students are as eager to learn as their same-aged, non-disabled peers. I am beginning to construct a more kid-friendly classroom library and am in desperate need of kid friendly books. I have been at this school for less than a year, and as is the practice, the previous teacher takes their books when they move to other classrooms. My students love to read, it brings me to tears to see my students having to wait until their classmate has finished a book before they're allowed to read it. Due to their reading deficits, they really enjoy read alouds (their favorites are Dr Seuss books, fairy tales, and books on tape). As you know, Chicago Public Schools is in the throes of a budget crisis, and there if very little chance of me receiving new books for my classroom. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance.
