Creating Future Scientists One Word At A Time
Funded Nov 25, 2016With your donation, student achievement on tests and quizzes grew by a total of 26% over the course of the year! Vocabulary acquisition is key for student understanding of new content. Your donation allowed me to provide a clear method for students to study and mastery new vocabulary words. My hope is that they take these skills with them into high school and continue to make their own vocabulary cards. I've had several students tell me how easy science quizzes are ever since I introduced the vocabulary card system. Thank you so much for taking away the stress of science so that my students and me can focus on the things that make science fun.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Lawson
This classroom project was brought to life by LA Sprout Fund and one other donor."Measuring" the Path to Success
Funded Oct 31, 2016Thank you so much for the many science resources. Our students have been able to conduct countless experiments with the equipment you provided. Using our glassware, students were able to discover that plants conduct cellular respiration. With our hotplates, we were able to model the formation of igneous rocks. Our scales have shown us that mass does not disappear if it changes from a solid/liquid (baking soda and vinegar) to a gas (carbon dioxide trapped inside a balloon.) It has meant the world to me a teacher to know that I can give my students the opportunity to conduct hands-on experiments every single day without being limited by a lack of equipment. For my students, your donation has meant that we went from one small experiment every other week, to doing some sort of hands-on activity every single day. We are about to move into our weather unit, and I am excited for the opportunity to have my students create clouds-in-a-jar, compare the relative heating rates of soil vs. water, and conduct countless other experiments that are only possible with your help.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Lawson
