In AVID, the teachers' role is more of a support to aid students in accessing and navigating through college information. In the classroom, I am moving among my students and this device allows me to give students individualized attention. Students need to be able to quickly look up their academic transcripts and have regular individualized discussions with me to develop their academic portfolios. The technology requested for this project will help students in multiple ways. This laptop will facilitate student learning by allowing me to give in the moment feedback to students. It will allow students to easily create and access their digital portfolios. In AVID it is crucial for students to develop college and career readiness skills, and the college world is very much tied to the professional use of technology through learning appropriate digital citizenship. Students practice developing professional emails, resumes, portfolios, uploading essays to programs, checking for plagiarism, developing presentations to share with peers, accessing transcripts, and researching scholarships and colleges. Each of these skills are a critical part of our AVID program and students can regularly discuss these in conferencing when we navigate through the technology together.
