Students can use the Acer Chromebooks to access educational programs we have set up, as well as new research-based software programs to improve their reading, writing and math skills. This is a great way to help support STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Education in my classroom. Our District has reading and math programs that allow students to access the curriculum online. With this, I am able to differentiate learning for my students' needs. The Chromebooks will give them time to reinforce and strengthen their skills. Having this extra bit of technology for my sixth graders will motivate my students to practice and learn in new ways as well as prepare them for their Smarter Balance Testing. Our school uses Accelerated Reader. It is a program where students take a 5, 10 or 20 question comprehension test after completing a book. If they pass the test with 70% or higher, they are awarded points. The points are based on the level and complexity of the novel. Each month, the students are awarded a medal for every 50 points they read. This is a very fun and exciting program that encourages reading. Having Chromebooks in my class will allow students to take an Accelerated Reading test when they complete a book. Having four Chromebooks will allow students access to take a test since they may only complete a test while at school. The laminating pouches are to laminate and frame their writing projects. For Mother's Day and Father's Day, the student type poems to their parents, and I laminate each one and tie a ribbon around it for the student to present to their parent. The laminating pouches securely seal each treasure and protect the writing for life.
