Mrs. G's Stability Balls

My students are loving our stability balls. We removed our chairs from our classroom and replaced them with stability balls. I have noticed that I have students more focused than ever before. I remember one day right after winter break where I must have told the same child to pay attention and "stay with me" a hundred times during the day. Once the stability balls arrived, I have not had to tell this student to pay attention at all. It's amazing! I had students out of seats, sitting on his/her feet, laying across tables, etc because our classroom chairs were so hard and uncomfortable. Not anymore! My students know they can slightly bounce on their balls while listening, working, and learning. We had a lesson on putting safety first with the stability balls and the rules and privilege for having these materials.

My students screamed and cheered when I first told them a donor had purchased the balls for us so I knew when they finally saw the balls, their excitement would be through the roof. It was total chaos for a few minutes, but they quickly learned that they have earned these new seats. They love these balls. They come in quieter in the mornings and get to work faster. They cannot wait to sit down because it is something new. It is almost as if they grew up with this gift.

Our next steps in our classroom is just to prepare and work hard because this is the first year they are required to take the state assessment. They are eager to learn as much as they can and apply their learning to various tasks. They are ready to conquer the world!”
