Our school library is a busy place where students learn about literature, coding, digital citizenship, and valuable research skills. Students also create, explore, and learn by building with hands-on activities and technology. These Makerspace building items will be available for students to use in the library and in the classroom. In the library, students will build structures in response to literature based tasks. For example, they might be challenged to build a bridge for the "Three Bill Goats Gruff" to use to escape the troll or a house for the "Three Little Pigs" that cannot be blown over by the Big Bad Wolf Hairdryer. Students will collaborate with each other and develop their problem solving skills and perseverance all while having fun! Classroom teachers will also be able to check these materials out for use in the classroom during science and math lessons as well as free active play. My goal is to create a library program that fosters creativity and a love of learning by creating an environment of inquiry. These items will go a long way to help our students learn valuable critical thinking skills as they brainstorm, invent, create, and reflect. My library promotes a love of reading everyday and aims to inspire our students with STEM activities through Makerspace.
