Blasting off With Better Books

Help me give my students to build a more modern classroom library by including new titles from the Bad Guys, and more engaging non-fiction titles. Our library needs an update to keep my readers engaged in reading.

  • Painting Our World

    Funded Aug 17, 2022

Your generous donations allowed my second graders to express their learning through art. We just completed our IB unit that focuses on How We Express Ourselves. Students learned about different cultures through Folktales and Fairy Tales. Students were able to write their own version of their folktale or fairy tale. After they had published their story, they were able to design a book cover using the canvases and paint.

The students were excited to use their new materials. We try to incorporate a new medium for all our projects and acrylic paint was our exciting new medium. We set up an art station with smocks and easels for painting. Students took turns at the station working on painting their book cover.

Our next unit is Where We Are In Place and Time. Students will be learning how technology and daily life have changed over the years. They will interview an ancestor and create a podcast to share with the class.”

    With gratitude,

  • Comfortable Kiddos

    Funded Sep 28, 2016

Thank you so much for your donations to my project. The students have loved using their comfortable seating around the classroom. We have designated times during the day when students can choose an alternative seat to work. The seating allows students to spread out around the room to find their "SMART" seat. Students can also use the seats to comfortably sit with a partner to work on a project or discussion.

The students were so excited when all 12 of our boxes, stacked almost to the ceiling were delivered. They couldn't wait to begin using them. The project was delivered about 48 hours after it was funded. We had the boxes opened and set up by the end of the day.

The was the first step to flexible seating in my classroom. By the end of the year, I am hoping to have students have learning centers instead of desks. Right now we are working on baby steps thanks to all of you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Buscemi

  • Tuning into Learning

    Funded Jul 12, 2014

Thank you so much for your donations. The earphones arrived just in time for the start of school. My students are excited to use their earphones and it really helps them focus on their work. I have a student with special needs and she is able to use the computer while I am working with other students. She is not distracted by my talking and we are not distracted by the sounds on her computer. We have many new programs that will help our lower readers with their reading skills. The earphones allow for each student to be working on their own and at their own level. Thank you for all your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Buscemi

  • Bring Home the Books!

    Funded Aug 30, 2010

I would like to thank you for your generous donation to my project. My students have loved it. I have created a total of 46 backpacks in my room for my students. Everyday they can check out a backpack that has an educational game and a variety of books. They have been very responsible with our books and games.

I have seen the excitement that they have when they take home our activity backpacks. The activity backpack has supplies for the whole family to work together learning about many different things. It has brought families together and helped my students begin a love and joy for reading and expanding their horizons.”

  • Magic Carpet Ride

    Funded Sep 30, 2009

My greatest appreciation to you for your donation to my classroom. The carpet has helped us to have a central gathering place. We have learned new ways of interacting with each other and even new ways of problem solving!

As many companies are having difficulties with funding, our school district is no different. We are working on utilizing our community resources and you are one of the very generous companies who has been so helpful in making our students rise to the successes that are ahead of them.

Thank you for all your help and I hope you can continue to help other schools like ours.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Buscemi

I work in a low performing school. Many of our students do not have the opportunity to practice the skills taught at school in their homes. My students are very motivated in the classroom and I want to encourage them to learn at home. Our school is 91% Hispanic, 73% English Learners and 86% Economically Disadvantaged. Many of our parents work two jobs to support the family. I want to make learning fun and enjoyable for the kiddos in the classroom. This project will help my students to be independent learners and have fun when interacting with students and the teacher in the classroom
