  • Play It Again, Teacher!

    Funded Feb 17, 2013

Thank you so much for your generous contribution to enrich the learning of children that you don't even know. With our new DVD players, they have been able to watch DVDs that reinforce the instruction they get in class, and it is already making a difference for them. I am finally seeing their scores go up as they have increased the sight words they now recognize. This will make a real difference for them as they try to learn to read.

My class is very large this year, and my assistant and I just are not able to give some children all the individual attention and review that they need to learn these words. They have been watching the DVDs and singing along. Not only is it more fun than flash cards, but it has been very effective.

We are so grateful for people who care about these little learners. Your gifts are appreciated more than you know.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Spencer

  • A Place on the Carpet for Everyone

    Funded Sep 17, 2011

We can't thank you enough for the beautiful "magic carpet" that you have given to my kindergarten class. Not only does it brighten the room and provide a comfortable and colorful place to gather, but the 20 squares give each child a space to call their own. When everyone is in their square, I can see each little face, and there is room to walk without tripping over children! It helps with organization, since I can call on the red row or blue row to line up or read a sentence. It's already a favorite place for some to stretch out and read a book. It's great for math -- they line up manipulatives on the lines right now, and it will be used for sorting and adding later in the year.

We have been blessed by your generosity, and this gift will provide a wonderful gathering place for many classes of kindergarten children for years to come. Thank you -- THANK YOU for giving to this project. We love our "magic carpet!"”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Spencer

  • Read It Again, Teacher!!

    Funded Feb 28, 2011

My kindergarten class was thrilled to receive the CD players that you provided through

Donors Choose. They love to listen to stories every day, and the "Listen to Stories" center has become the most popular place in my room. Now, as I work on literacy skills with a

small group of children, another group listens to stories on the new CD players. They also

have enjoyed singing along with the phonics songs -- reinforcing the lessons they have worked on all year.

I can't thank you enough for your generous contribution. These children are hungry to listen to more books than I have time to read, and your donation is making a wonderful difference for them.

    We all thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Spencer

I teach a kindergarten class of 25 children in rural North Carolina. We are a small Title I school with about 90% of the children on free/reduced lunch. My children are eager learners, and some have run out of guided reading books on their level. We are currently using some old readers I got out of the recycle pile, but I would love to have a set of guided reading books to use with my advanced readers.
