Nonfiction is an area where many of my students struggle. It is also the largest component of our EOC Reading SOL. By reading and using Upfront magazine in our classroom, students will not only build their literacy skills, but they will also become more informed about current events. Upfront magazine provides nonfiction to teens that is relevant and interesting, engaging students of all levels. This magazine is not just a great resource for building nonfiction reading skills; it will provide an inspiration for writing as well. Students will be able to evaluate articles and generate feedback for use in formal writing and class discussion, all while gaining knowledge of world events. Reading, writing, and cross-curricular connections--we can cover it all!
