  • Snacks For Labs

    Funded Nov 22, 2024

These snacks and treats are a true blessing right before winter break. My students needed a little pick-me-up during the last few days of 2024 and all were excited to enjoy the food. Many of my students were surprised to receive various foods that they were able to select. There were even multiple classmates who were thrilled to share or donate their snacks to another hungry learner.

Thank you very much for your support and for giving each of my students a little joy before leaving for the holidays.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Parratore

  • Rise Up With Esperanza Rising!

    Funded Oct 7, 2022

Thank you very much for your support in purchasing this class set of Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan books for my students. I cannot begin to tell you how excited my students were when they saw the books!

They are excited to be reading a book that has a character that looks like them and reflects their culture. We are currently reading this book during Hispanic Heritage Month. Having books in our classroom that are self-reflecting is a great way to boost student self-esteem. Esperanza Rising is about a Mexican girl living and struggling to thrive in California; everything my students know and understand. Reading about characters that have overcome adversity among so many other challenges in life is a great way to engage in meaningful book discussions.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Parratore

  • Ann Frank & Flocabulary

    Funded Aug 24, 2022

Thank you all once again for your kind donations! These wonderful students deserve the very best and that is what I am striving to give them each and every day.

These books are bringing a whole different experience during these past couple of years.

They are enjoying their time reading about Anne Frank and her family. The experiences they went through are especially relatable nowadays when kids were stuck at home, often feeling trapped and disconnected from the world.

Thank you once again for these novels!”

  • Touch Lives As My Students Are Touching Spirit Bear

    Funded Mar 9, 2022

My students absolutely LOVED this book. They genuinely connected with the main character in the story. They were full of emotions during the whole story, changing constantly. Many great discussions came about with students sharing their perspectives and feelings.

I had a few students really think about what it means to forgive. They realized that not everyone is perfect and we all make mistakes. They also were more aware of how people are influenced by how they are treated.

I am so thankful to have this book to share with my students each year. Thank you so very much for this gift.”

  • The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

Thank you for bringing this novel into my rural Arizona classroom. My students are integrating multiple reading strategies to assist comprehension. Also, they are gaining valuable background knowledge on an important piece of history.

Great conversations and book discussions are occurring on a regular basis. My students also want to read more books about this topic.

I can not thank the donors enough for The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and the reading engagement that has evolved. Thanks again!”

  • Flocabulary Rocks

    Funded Sep 20, 2016

My students and I want to thank you for your generous donations. Over the past couple of months, I have integrated Flocabulary into my classroom and everyone is even more excited about learning!

I have many students who sing along with the videos or I hear them humming the tunes leaving the classroom. There are a few songs that have caught their attention. "Five Elements of a Story" is a top video that not only students love but they're also receiving important information about literature.

    Thanks again!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Parratore

Every student that walks into my classroom each day wants to learn. It's the teacher's job to provide an engaging and creative lesson for success not only for today's lesson but also towards the future. That's why I want to introduce Flocabulary into my classroom. Flocabulary is proven to raise scores on state reading tests. By integrating Flocabulary into lessons throughout the school day, the videos help to increase critical thinking skills. Students will view various videos that are Common Core aligned, and each child will complete an online quiz to assess their knowledge on the subject. Students will use the vocabulary they learned to increase their writing skills. Students will also use the Kagan strategy, quiz-quiz-trade, during the course of the school year from all the newly learned vocabulary. I also have chosen a wonderful book, Esperanza Rising, that will be beneficial for many Spanish speaking students. A young adult novel, written by Pam Muñoz Ryan, will give all readers a roll model named Esperanza Ortega. It was written in 2000 but it's sure to be a classic. Hey, it's for the kids!
