  • For the Love of Books

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

I am so excited that, because of you, our project was funded. I can't wait for our Meet the Author day. After we meet the author of "Socks on the loose", every student will receive a copy of the book. The students will get to take home their books and practice reading with their parents. What I wonderful school-home connection that you made possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sims

  • Read Like a Champion

    Funded Sep 21, 2017

Having our new books has opened up a whole new world for our students. They love the colorful illustrations and get excited when they recognize a word. We use these books in several ways. The students love to just pick out a book, take it to their desk and just look. Many times they will pick out words, or just make up a story using the pictures. This is so much fun to watch. I love when they show each other or visitors their books and point out things they like.

Some of my students are starting to pick up sight words from the book. It is exciting to watch them read a full page for the first time. I am not sure who gets more excited.

Though your sponsorship, you have given my students a priceless gift.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sims

Reading is essential to every student. However, it is a skill that my students struggle with everyday. One way to improve reading skills it to have students interact with good quality literature at their reading level. My students function at a Pre-k to Kindergarten level, however we are a 5-8 school. Therefore, our library does not have books for my students available. We must create a classroom library that provides books that are appropriate for my students. My students love to look at and interact with books. They love books with bright pictures and fun photos. We use books in our classroom to reinforce science and social studies concepts. We read about ways to be kind to others. Mostly we will use these books to develop a love of reading and literature in our very special classroom.
