  • Streaming Science Digitally

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Teaching science through virtual learning has truly been one of the most challenging parts of my teaching this year. Science is that subject that brings about natural curiosity and excitement because of the inquiry and hands-on nature of the subject. This year, however, all learning is being done through a screen, which doesn't create quite the same buzz of excitement.

After receiving this generous donation, engagement was so much higher because of the great resources we were able to afford on Teachers Pay Teachers there were so many digital resources that allowed students to engage with science virtually though Google Slides, informational videos, and recorded demonstrations that help students see the concepts in action!

Thank you for supporting science education and keeping the excitement alive!”

  • Building COVID Classroom Engagement

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Seeing these materials during our classroom unboxing was so incredible to see the excitement in the classroom for the new wall decor, prizes, and lights. Then, when that seemed more than enough, once things got displayed the eyes of the students were HUGE and bright, exclaiming how "cool" our classroom is, high praise from fifth graders!

The prizes - stickers, eraser, rings, and more - were a big hit with our classroom raffles and has helped increase the amount of work completed and turned in. In our world of virtual learning where accountability is tough for all students, having this incentive has made the world of difference. Now students eagerly ask if I got their assignment so they're entered into the class raffle for the prizes. Prize selection is often the "hardest decision" according to students because there are so many good options!

Thank you again for all you do to help our classroom be a fun and safe space to learn and grow!”

  • Social Safety Storage Needed!

    Funded Sep 21, 2020

Thank you truly doesn't seem like enough to capture my gratitude for these materials and resources. The classroom has never been so organized and socially safe for all students to engage in meaningful learning without worrying about where to put our materials.

Having 24 fifth grade bodies in a small portable classroom is a struggle, but with COVID restrictions we have so little space for anything "extra" so that all students are feeling safe in the classroom. These bookshelves freed up a whole corner of the classroom that previously had bulky, outdated materials and made way for an organized space for student and curriculum materials so that the little space we have is maximized.

Thank you again for all of your generosity and the incredible impact you're making on classrooms around the country during this challenging year!”

  • Giddy for Graphic Novels, Part 2

    Funded Sep 24, 2020

These graphic novels absolutely changed the game in my fifth grade classroom! Students are happier than ever to read and all of the books have a LONG waiting list!

In fifth grade students have fairly set mindsets on what they think about reading - and depending on past experiences those thoughts may not always be positive. As a teacher I work hard to create and foster a love of reading in all of my students through book talks, read alouds and our classroom library. These graphic novels have been an incredible addition to our classroom since they're accessible to so many students, at a variety of reading levels. They also help struggling readers build their confidence to try more complex texts and chapter books.

From the bottom of my heart, I greatly appreciate your donations and hope you know the incredible impact you're making on students around the country. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lippert

  • Giddy for Graphic Novels!

    Funded Mar 3, 2020

Thank you doesn't seem like enough to say in order to show my appreciation of your amazing donation. These books will increase reading engagement and allow my students to find the love of reading that is so important. As students get older, there is more and more pressures of learning and the simple joys of things like reading a book of your choice start to get lost. With this collection of books, I know my students will love reading for a long time to come! Thank you from my heart and my classroom for supporting education!”

  • Project Diverse Books Activate!

    Funded Dec 2, 2018

Reading picture books is something that so many students miss out on as family time in the busy 21st-century world that we live in! Spending time reading together as a class builds that bond together and help build empathy among the students. We have that common shared experience and that common background knowledge that brings people together!

In our classroom, reading is a time to take a break from the mental demands of math and science. We gather together at a carpeted space and read together, projecting our book for the day on the projector. Students love this time to take a mental break from their learning and spend time together! We post a picture of the book covers on our wall as a growing monument to all of the books we have shared together.

These books have opened up so much engagement in the classroom. There have been several days where a student has told me that they didn't feel like coming to school today but decided to come so that they didn't miss the story. And when students are gone many ask to read the book that they missed the following day! I hear daily from the reading and writing teachers how they can't get the students to read any books and I have no problem because of the natural engagement and interest that picture books bring all students!

Thank you for your generous donation for our classroom. The community building is invaluable and the resources will last for many classrooms to come!”

    Mrs. Lippert

  • Real Life Math Comes Alive!

    Funded Dec 18, 2014

Math is a subject I am passionate about and I try to make sure that my students see my passion in class every day. I strive to make math a classroom that is fun and inviting to all students. I want to see students struggle, persevere and learn more with me than they ever thought possible. These materials have helped make that happen.

The Wrap-Up kits make practicing multiplication, division, and fractional fluency fun and exciting. It's usually the first things students want to do! The daily math practice books have given my students a spiraling review that helps students remember content better than ever before. Fractions and decimals, a topic that is something that all of my students struggled with in the past. Now that students have more materials to practice with, as well as more engaging materials, students aren't as hesitant to solve problems involving decimals and fractions, which is exciting to see.

With budget cuts around the country, I appreciate your support of our students and strong math programs at the middle school level. We want to make sure that students are seeing the application of math in the world around them to instill excitement around the subject. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

  • Selma - Changing the Life of Inner City Students

    Funded Feb 27, 2015

When students were told they got a full day off of school to see a movie, jaws dropped and cheers filled the room. Educational or not, what middle school student doesn't want to take a bus downtown and see a movie for the day? Before the movie was introduced to students, they had little idea of what the civil rights movement was and the trials and tribulations that people in our past went through to create the environment in which we live today.

Fascinated, we spend a week discussing, reading about, and watching videos related to Selma, showing primary resources and sparking an instant curiosity in students. The more we talked about the film, the more the students were inspired and engaged in learning more. As teachers, this field trip worked exactly as we could have hoped!

Thank you for funding such a spectacular project for our students! We would never have been able to go on such a great trip without your support!”

    Mrs. Lippert

  • Cooking Up a Love of Math in Young Chef's Club!

    Funded Dec 19, 2014

When we announced that Chevron funded our project to start a middle school cooking club students were beyond excited. They cheered and clapped, hardly believing that they would be given the club that they wanted most.

In a school where many students are on free and reduced lunch status, eating at school is often a student's only time they eat during the day. Nutrition isn't a priority in homes and "fast food" is usually a staple in homes. As we face an epidemic of poor nutrition and childhood obesity, this Young Chef's club is a way to open up doors to better nutrition, while using math in the process! Students are shocked to see how affordable and easy a homemade meal can be! Using math with food preparation has brought out a confidence in student calculations and a confidence in our budding chef's - something that students may not have had access to otherwise.

I appreciate your support of our cooking club to provide healthy nutrition and math practice to middle school students. The confidence and positive self-esteem students get from this club are worth every penny!”

  • Help Bring Social Studies Alive!

    Funded Dec 3, 2013

Thank you so much for the amazing donations you've given to our classroom. The books you've funded were an amazing gift for my class and we couldn't wait to start reading. We have used them in book clubs throughout the year to enhance our social studies curriculum as well as gain new perspectives on moments in history, such as the Oregon Trail pioneers and slavery. Both of these events play a big role in our state and national history so it was exciting to have more resources than just our textbook to use!

Since the donation, social studies engagement has increased immensely! Students are excited and ready to learn, every day, because of the resources that your dollars provided. I am extremely thankful for your support now and your hopeful support in the future. Without your donations, schools in our district just wouldn't be the same. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
