My students are active movers and shakers. Many of them learn best when standing or moving and I want to offer them a more comfortable means to learn while meeting their needs for movement. I love sitting on a yoga ball; it stimulates my need for movement while also allowing me to be focused and relaxed. I want that for my students. These kids work hard and learn deep and rigorous content. Allowing them to sit on a ball that helps their core posture and desire for movement will stimulate their desire for learning and questioning. We will rotate the chairs throughout the classroom for different subjects. For example some students will have the chairs for reading time and others for math. I believe they will be excited to have the chairs and more ready for exploring whatever subject we are learning. Today's students are expected to meet high expectations with rigorous goals and curriculum. More and more students are being misdiagnosed with behavior issues or ADD due to stress. Donations to this project will make a huge impact on my students, meeting the need for movement and creating a more relaxed physical environment in which to learn. Students will have less behavior problems when their needs for stimuli are met and more willing to be engaged in their learning.
